Surrey Business School will host a Corporate Governance Workshop on 11th and 12th July 2019, preceded by a PhD/Early Career Researcher Workshop on 10th July. The events will be held on the campus of the University of Surrey in Guildford, UK. The main workshop, designed to cut across disciplinary boundaries, as well as the academic-practitioner divide, will feature presentations of academic papers and a practitioner plenary session. The PhD/ECR development event will include training sessions, paper presentations, and poster displays. Participants will receive feedback and support from academics with expertise in the area of corporate governance. Guest speakers include Professor Matthew Semadeni, Dean’s Council Distinguished Scholar at W.P. Carey School of Business, University of Arizona, and Paul Druckman, Chair of the UK FRC Corporate Reporting Council. TOPICS: We encourage submission of unpublished papers addressing topics within the field of corporate governance with a focus on board issues, including: board and committee composition and structure; director skill sets; board tenure; board and/or management succession planning; dual role of the CEO/Chairman; the board's role in monitoring risk and other oversight responsibilities; board-level processes; board diversity; comparative corporate governance; corporate governance in firms that are not listed on the stock market (e.g., family-owned firms, new ventures, partnerships, not-for-profit firms); governance in alternative corporate forms; and the role of regulators. We welcome papers from any relevant academic discipline, including (but not restricted to): finance; accounting; strategy; sociology; organisation studies; HRM; economics; and law.
